Haider Ackermann

Meet Haider Ackermann

Haider signature: Avant-garde silhouettes, edgy fabrics, evocative draping and somber aesthetic. His layering and draping never ceases to amaze me. Ackermann has a soigné way with the simplest of materials. He can drape anything and what he does with leather could drive Rick Owens insane!! His sensitivity with drape and textures shows through in every collection.

Bio: Haider Ackermann was born in 1971 in Santa Fe de Bogotá, Columbia and adopted by French parents. He grew up in many cities throughout Africa and Europe before joining The Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He attended for three years and he worked for various labels including interning at Galliano's Paris office. I think I would actually pay Galliano to intern with him!! :) Belgium is famous for many things: lace, waffles, French fries, beers and Leonidas chocolate. You can now add fashion designer Haider Ackermann to the list!

Ackermann's clothes are modern clothes for strong women. Women who CRAVE uniqueness. He does not believe a women should wear a lot of colors.. he really keep a subtle color palette. The structure, the clean and long line of his garment is unbelievable!

Ackermann will be venturing into new territory: men’s wear. He will unveil his first men’s looks during the Pitti W trade show in Florence in June. I can only imagine how amazing his Collection will be! He is a very interesting men.. He has a fashion show coming up in Toronto and it would be a such an honor to meet him!

You can find his latest collections at 119 Corbo in Yorkville.

“Born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy”

DSquared

My favorite Canadian fashion Designers, Dean and Dan from DSquared. Quick bio: Canadian twin brothers moved to Milan in 1991 to pursuit their fashion dreams. They wanted to be different, they had a goal and worked really hard for it.. and they made it Big!

Myself, Dean and Dan or.. Dan and Dean

I have been a huge fan for numerous years and this amazing duo just keep getting better! With their refined Italian tailoring skills and an amazing attention to details, the designers always been proud of their Canadian background. Don't be surprise to see images of the Niagara Falls, forest, bears, moose's or even beavers on their clothing. Best of all, the clothing is extremely well made, high quality and the pieces are wearable for all of us people that don't walk on a runway everyday! DSquared always seem to have the perfect combination of style, music and spectacle!

Did you know that Dean and Dan’s clothes are featured in Madonna’s “Don’t Tell Me” video, and they created more than 150 pieces of clothing for the Drowned World tour? They’ve had countless celebrity moments but Madonna was a big deal. She was such an inspiration for them and now she is a big fan! That's accomplishment.

“Real clothes for real people”, –is how Dean and Dan Caten like to define their clothing.

Soldiers fighting on the Front Lines

Photography. A more powerful message does not exist and the photographers of this exhibition are sending a very powerful message with the most touching war photography. Photography that captured the courage and the fear of the day-to-day life of a fighting soldier.

Don't miss the opening Reception on Wednesday, May 26, from 7pm to 11pm at Steam Whistle Brewing and meet the talented artists. The exhibition will be on display from Monday May 24 to Monday May 31 2010.

THE EXHIBITION

OVERVIEW
War embodies the ultimate failure of humanity. Yet it persists through generations; even today, images from Afghanistan present Canadians with irreconcilable feelings of resigned necessity and ethical horror. Robert Capa's masterful photographs of The Spanish Civil War portrayed the brutality of battle while exposing a poignant yearning for civilian normalcy among its idealistic combatants. Front Lines, inspired by Capa's indelible scenes from the first 'media war', reminds us that the camaraderie of men drawn by a sense of duty to an imperfect moral calling can reveal fleeting moments of disarming grace bound by unspeakable tragedy.

So hippies go on cruises, too, huh?

A few days ago, Karl Lagerfeld presented the Chanel Cruise Collection 2011 in Saint Tropez, south of France. It was colorful, bohemian and inspired from the glorious eras of the '60s and '70s. Some very nice pieces.. but not my favorite collection.
So… old man crotch is in this year?

Merci Rescue Ink!

Rescue Ink is not what you think.. Theses New Yorkers carry the images of being tough dudes that doesn't care about anything but really.. they all have a heart of gold! They are not afraid to use their powerful and intimidating image to fight against animal abuse. They have help hundreds if not thousands of animals and although they don't look like the typical rescue organization.. I think they are wonderful!! I have such a huge love for animals.. I love you Rescue Ink! Good job!

Their mission statement, "We will stop at nothing within the bounds of the law to protect animals at risk. We will intercede without hesitation when we are informed of a situation that needs to be addressed, and we will address it. If we need to convince people to do the right thing ... we can be very convincing, we'll even buy animals if that's what it takes to get them away from abusers."

Rescue Ink is also a tv series on the National Geographic Channel:
